Monash University is currently seeking applications from those interested in a PhD Scholarship in Historical Studies /Oral History on the subject of ‘Australian Fathers and Broken Families’.
The scholarship is open to both domestic (Australian) and international applicants and the closing date for applications is Friday 15 March 2019.
The successful applicant will join a team of five researchers working on the Australian Research Council-funded project, ‘Fatherhood: an Australian History, 1919-2019’. She or he will be supervised by oral historian Professor Alistair Thomson, and will contribute to the wider project by researching the role and memory of fathers in so-called ‘broken families’, drawing upon oral histories about the separation of children from their families collected by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home collection (https://www.nla.gov.au/oral-history/bringing-them-home-oral-history-project) and the Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants collection (https://www.nla.gov.au/oral-history/forgotten-australians-and-former-child-migrants-oral-history-project).
