Oral History Victoria 2016 Symposium – Call for Papers – Submission deadline: 10 May 2016
Culture, Community and Oral History: Stories of Diversity, Conflict and Resilience.
Do you have an exciting oral history project you’re working on that you’d like to share with us? We’re looking for presenters of all varieties – community and professional historians, students, academics – and at all stages of their careers.
This symposium aims to explore opportunities and challenges for oral history and the use of interview across the cultural, arts, literary and academic sectors. Oral History Victoria invites proposals for papers that will allow us to showcase approaches to the documentation and communication of culture and communities.
Themes explored:
- Creating and identifying different types of communities through shared experience (including, but not limited to: locality, ethnicity, sexuality, generation, and profession)
- Confirming and challenging grand narratives Local people recording local stories
- The power of oral history to communicate community experience
- Challenges in documenting community and culture testimony
- Community oral history and social empowerment.
